Pieksämäki Adult Education Centre

Pieksämäen seutuopisto is an adult education centre that welcomes all learners and offers opportunities for a wide variety of recreational activities and study. Learning is largely self-motivated and, as a rule, not aimed at achieving a formal qualification.

You can study e.g.:

– Finnish and other languages

– Handicrafts and Visual Arts

– Music

– Physical Exercise and Dance

– Drama and Literature

– Information Technology

In addition, Seutuopisto organises talks and lectures on a range of cultural topics, current social and political issues as well as movie afternoons and popular sing-alongs. 

Seutuopisto also provides Finnish as a foreign language tuition for immigrants. The choice of courses on offer varies year by year and attempts to cater for the current need and wishes of the students.

Pieksämäen seutuopisto is part of the nationwide network of adult education centres. These centres are available to everyone, regardless of their age or educational background. 

Most courses have a small course fee, and students buy their own course books and other materials needed in the course. Courses are often provided at a number of venues across Pieksämäki, including Poleeni and schools during after-school hours. Most of the sports courses take place at Veturitori and music, handicraft and daytime language courses in Keskuskatu 45. Most Finnish language courses take place in Pieksämäen lukio, Keskuskatu 32.
